Character Counts are the values we as a school believe are vital for students to learn, practice, and incorporate into their lives. Going beyond the classroom we want to invest in the children's future in becoming respectful, responsible, trustworthy, caring, and fair citizens of the world.

Join us in celebrating the daily effort students put forth to grow and learn what it means to be a friend and the resulting accomplishments of those who succeed in displaying these qualities to everyone around them.

Caring

Care is why we are here, we care about the student's education, well-being, and experience. Leading by example, we hope that the students also become empathic and aware of those around them. Furthermore, we want to see care going into more than just people; we love to see the care that the students place in education, pursuing passions, and every venture.

Fairness

At UCIS we want to give the students equal opportunities in the classroom, on the field, and everywhere in between. We ask that the students extend fairness to everyone around them whether they are learning, playing, or competing.

Citizenship

It is the unique privilege of UCIS to be able to touch the lives of such a diverse group of nationalities. We strive to raise awareness among the students of what it means to be a citizen of the world. We want to celebrate our similarities and differences together, and help one another as members of a united community. Our goal is for all of the UCIS community to embody the Character Counts attributes and for the students to take it to heart as they become future leaders of the world.

Respect

R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to me, or rather, what it means to us. Respect is essential, especially in such a huge learning environment like UCIS. UCIS has such a diverse community with people from all over the world from teachers to students, everyone is unique and special in their own way. Respect for one another, no matter who it is, where they are from, or how different their experiences are from our own is a requirement in our UCIS family.

Responsibility

Grade 3-5 students are at a stage in their life where there is a significant increase in responsibility. We are encouraging them to take responsibility for the actions, words, and commitments they make at school. We would love to see the children lead successful ventures in their lives and we acknowledge responsibility as one of the key features of good leadership.

Trustworthiness

One aspect of school that we will be focusing on this year is teamwork. Teamwork between the students and between the students and teachers/administrators. It is our mission to provide students with quality education and a memorable experience. To successfully complete this mission, we need to be able to have trust in one another, we want to encourage the students to practice trustworthiness in their interactions within the UCIS community.
